Deck the halls with hunks of holly, fill the cup and don't say when [Dec. 17th, 2001|02:35 pm]

So my family is so unbelievably large these days that we have to draw names for gifts. Normally I opt out of this little game, but this year it feels like Christmas is just a chore that's come around way too fast, so I figured to hell with it. So that means that instead of having to buy a gift for Bobby, Roger, Darlene, Mike, Julie, John, Barbara, and Larry, I only have to buy a gift for Larry, since someone drew his name for me in absentee. Pretty sweet, but still kind of sad.

So that narrows down my family shopping lists to the parents and their respective significant others, Larry, and the nephews and nieces (Ryan, Tyler, Alec, Nicholas, Paul, Crystal, and Mikala). Still a formidable task, but possible.

My family does a very similar thing, but in the last few years it's gotten *SO* damn big that we've switched to a one-for-one draw - so I buy a gift for one person and that one person buys a gift for me.

I think it sort of diminishes the <something> of Christmas, but it certainly makes the price more manageable.

My grandmother has four children, with a spouse for each (two for one of them), and thirteen grandchildren between them. Now that the grandchildren have started to spawn at uncountable rates, the Christmas gathering is growing to a point where they may no longer fit in anyone's abode and may have to start renting a hall. :) Scary.

My family has been doing that for as long as I can remember. Only in the past couple of years has the line between kids and parents been dissolved so that it's a free-for-all. This year Rachael and I drew my uncle and his less-than-popular wife.

Anyone know someplace we can go for Christmas besides the SIX other places across the Southeast we're slated to visit in a week? We'd love that. Thanks.
