UPDATE: Since getting in touch with my insurance agent is impossible, I called the mechanic. He had a copy of the appraiser's report. Seems to total up to 3800 dollars worth of damage. A lot, sure, but TOTAL worthy? No. Conservative estimates place my car's worth at $8300 and higher one's place it at $9500. The note also said that the car was "poorly kept". Sure, it needed a carwash and a vacuuming, but is there anything cosmetically wrong with it? Can anyone who's ridden in it confirm or deny this? Bah. If they try to give me $4000 for the car, I'm going to be severely pissed. What options do I have?
Update #2: So as I suspected, my car's not totaled at all. They're just on crack. They assessed my car's value at $7700, which is still low, but much more than $3800. So it'll be fixed, eventually. Here's hoping, anyhow, right?
Update #3: We're very close to actually working on the car, now, but it won't be until tomorrow. Luckily, the auto shop can sublet the painting and hood repair, so I'm not going to have to think about that anymore. And it will take anywhere from 7 to 10 days (estimated) to fix, once they get started. That's about what I expected. So I'll probably rent a car for next week. I hate being a burden to my friends for rides and such.
