one day I will learn not to install new operating systems on a whim [Mar. 19th, 2002|08:47 am]

But not today, my friend!

Yesterday, I had some time before class, so I picked up Windows XP Professional for 5 bucks from the University Computer store, or whatever it's called.

So I installed it, encountering numerous problems along the way. Now it's mostly installed, except that sound won't work, and somehow the registration for my CD burning software is gone, and the programs menu is really annoying and I'm dog tired because I DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT.

right click on the start menu and the task bar. there are ways to make it look like the old windows. you can also use a whole win2k theme to get rid of the "My First Operatin System" look of XP

oh yeah...

and if you (used to) have Adaptec EasyCD, that's why the license is gone. Easy CD is disabled in XP because it's been integrated into the operating system. The only thing I can't figure out how to do is a direct CD copy like adaptec used to do. lemme know if you figure that out.

Christmas...

I could've told you not to do that. We've got more wacky bugs that are XP specific than I know what to do with, such as:

Click "OK", then IMMEDIATELY switch to Fullscreen mode (Alt-Enter). Textures are screwy. For some reason XP can't handle that one very gracefully, so it fails to send a DirectX Restore() call.

Good stuff!

Man, i really wish you had mentioned this to me before you did it just so i could warn you against it AGAIN and you could ignore me AGAIN - just like old times!

So when are you going to remove Win 98 from my system, biatch?
