Lately, like many people, I've been spending a good deal of time thinking about "The Rainbow Connection", among other things.
When Kermit the Frog croons "Why are there so many songs about rainbows?" what the hell is he talking about? I can only think of four songs about rainbows off the top of my head, and one of them is "The Rainbow Connection".
So, what songs do you know about rainbows?
12 black rainbows - type o negative!
"the world is a rainbow" - it is a song we sing in my class about accepting people of all colors and working together and shit.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Rolling Stones - She's a Rainbow
Dio - Rainbow in the Dark
Your point is abundantly clear, though; that line has always puzzled me.
Gone the Rainbow -- Peter, Paul, and Mary
Rainbow Ride -- Charlie Daniels (though I have a hard time picturing Kermit jamming to the Charlie Daniels Band)
She Talks To Rainbows -- The Ramones (See comment above)
I just did an AllMusic
search for rainbow songs and...wow, just wow.
Rainbow of Fire
As a person whose voice sounds like Kermit, I feel I must comment. Kermit is speaking metaphorically. You leave out too much that follows: "and what's on the other side." "Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide. So we've been told but I don't believe it...," etc. He's a dreamer, and thinks there's a better future, a solution to life's problems, and that we'll find it. Think "Imagine" by John Lennon. There are, in fact, quite a many songs about dreams coming true and not losing hope.
Man, I'm sleepy.
