So the game/research platform I did that paper on in my neural networks class has been released to the public for free. Even cooler, it got posted on Slashdot. I mean, I only contributed a miniscule amount, but still. The feature my partner and I researched was called milestoning, and I'm happy to say that it's still in the game. The documentation even links to our paper, which was presented at AIIDE-2005. Only now do I realize that I'm one of those scientists Wes is always ranting about. I've been training neural networks to kill, for chrissakes, albeit in a simulated environment.

What have I done?

Eh, don't worry. We've got years to go before they'll be able to do anything like self-replicate or process meat into energy.

Indeed, replication technology is still months away.
A virus that downloads blueprints to your machine behind the scenes and then prints out those nasty little robot-spider assassination droids right in your own home while you sleep. Great!

Considering this an eventuality

Even if I'll have to live in fear of this sort of stuff, it sounds like my death will be pretty awesome.

Also the whole robot printer concept is pretty rad.
