diversity day [Nov. 9th, 2006|01:24 pm]

Today was Diversity Day at IBM. As far as I can tell, diversity means 1) people in Native American costumes standing around thinking about doing some sort of dance, and 2) free cake.

Diversity Day also reminds me of a team luncheon we had yesterday. Sitting across from me is one of our developers. I forget what he was talking about but he said something to the effect of, "That's why Oriental people traditionally have been... ". I mouthed the word "Asian" to him, but I don't think he picked up on it.

After School Improv tonight at 8pm at Coldtowne Theater

I never quite figured out diversity day when I was at IBM. It seemed more like a circus gallery than any attempt at exposing people to other cultures. And then there were the rainbow t-shirts, which just annoy the crap out of me.

My dad likes using the word "oriental" as much as possible just because it bothers my mom. I hope he accidentally says it at work all the time.
