I see outdated movies [Oct. 22nd, 2007|12:12 am]
Roy Janik

I just watched the Sixth Sense for the first time ever. I refused to watch it before out of spite, because an overzealous Scott revealed the twist ending to me back when it was still out in theaters. The movie's brilliant, though I couldn't help but wonder how it would have been to see it, naive of the big reveal.

I saw it that way. It was pretty freaking sweet.

I was watching it with Lee, Heather, Nick and April. I don't think any of us knew what the ending was. But near the end, I figured it out and shouted, "Ohhh!"

Everyone else demanded my silence. I complied.

I saw it about a year ago -- and like you, the ending had been spoiled. (People seemed to assume that everyone had seen it after a few years, but I hadn't.) I couldn't help but think that it was obvious: other than the boy, not a single person talked to him or respond to him; he always wore the same clothes; etc.

So I wonder how I would have reacted if I had known.

Yeah, it's hard to say... some of it seems obvious, like his wife always playing tapes of their wedding, but I have a feeling I wouldn't have figured it out.

The problem was that before the movie even came out, it was advertised as having "the biggest twist ending you'll ever see" or something like that, so even though I saw it before people could tell me the ending, I was aware of the existence of a twist and figured it out (I have a hard time letting go and not trying to figure that kind of stuff out... I hate that about myself).

Too bad he could never make another great movie after that.

Yeah, I liked Unbreakable alright, but it's sad that he felt the need to ALWAYS have a twist at the end.
