It was the 9th concertina ever made by Wally Carrol, a dot com millionaire who's since retired to life of custom making concertinas.
His concertinas are modeled after some of the best concertinas ever made... a 1914 Wheatstone Linota.
Anyways, I occasionally check his site to see what they're going for. I paid $3750 for it (I DID WHAT??), and had to wait a year before it was ready. You gotta understand. At the time, concertina was the closest I had to an all consuming passion. Anyhow, his concertinas are now going for $5750, and the estimated wait time is 4 years and 4 months.
Improv has stopped my concertina playing dead in its tracks, but I ache for it sometimes.
I really really need to pick it up again. My new goal is to play and improve over the coming year, and go back to Ireland in February 2009.
The instrument at least deserves that.
