Last night PGraph (-Kareem, +Andy Crouch) did a show for Jewish high school kids at a camp in Wimberly. It's so strange to perform for that age group. They were rowdy, easily distractible, and some of them were disinterested from the get go. But we definitely held their attention and got some big laughs throughout the show. We also did a lot of games that used audience members, since we suspected (correctly) that they'd be really into that. The funniest part to me was finding out that we weren't going to be able to do a ukulele scene, because playing a musical instrument counted as "doing work", which would have gone against honoring the Sabbath Day, or the Jewish equivalent whose name I forget. In a similar vein, lights could not be turned on or off.

Anyhow, we played a bunch of improv games, including a highly successful round of dolphin training. We were planning on doing a longform set at the end, but it quickly became apparent that they would not be into that, and the games were using up the time, anyhow. So we rolled with it and morphed into a game of freeze involving anyone who wanted to play. And a lot of kids wanted to play. My favorite moment of freeze was Valerie and this other kid:

Valerie: "Hey-a. I'ma Mario. I broughta you a pizza!"
Kid: "What kind of pizza?"
Valerie: "Chicken-a Pizza!" (reincorporating the initial suggestion of 'chicken').
Kid: "That's not kosher."
Valerie: "What do I know? I'm-a Italian."

Anyhow, it was good. Pushing new boundaries and all that.

It may have something to do with the setting. Just a speculation.

That's all I got.
