There are so many things preventing me from doing this, but wouldn't it be lovely?

The School at Steppenwolf

10 weeks immersion in training to be an actor.

To pull this off for summer 2009, I'd have to have:

  • a leave of absence from work
  • enough money saved up to cover expenses during my leave of absence
  • $3000 for tuition
  • a place to stay for 10 weeks
  • headshots
  • the ability to pass an audition
  • the ability to convince them via my application that I'm worth their time, regardless of my inexperience outside of improv
  • the willingness to put improv on hold for 10 weeks.

Save for the headshots, those are all pretty big hurdles.

This is the school that Dave Razowsky told me about at the last OOB West.  He also asserted numerous times that we're not improvisers... we're "actors who improvise", whether we're willing to admit it or not. I feel like I'm approaching acting in an almost backwards way sometimes... leaping in, and then slowly swimming towards basic competence.

I do have some desire to do scripted work, but mainly I'd be taking this course to find out what it could do for my improv, and how it would change and color my perception of what improv could be.

I don't think this will happen. But it'd sure be neat.

This program is unbelievably hard to get into.
Something like this, but on a lesser scale, would be good too.
