no no pants day [May. 1st, 2008|02:36 pm]

This No Pants Day I have absolutely nothing planned. No events, no protest, no nothing. I updated the website last May and left it at that. My apathy has several causes. One, I've done it for too long. Two, I'm swamped with improv. Three, the foul and raunchy comments left on the flickr gallery over the past year have left a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing. Four, Improv Everywhere has gotten famous enough to more or less steal our thunder. Five, I'm pretty sure (but not entirely sure) that the last vestiges of The Knighthood of BUH on the UT campus have disintegrated. Maybe I'm wrong, about that. Still, 3 radio stations have contacted me about interviews, which I'm pawning off on Josh Hug, because he's crazy and entertaining and a LOOSE CANNON.

So imagine my surprise that today's Austin Chronicle has on the cover, a promise of an article called "Celebrating NO PANTS DAY Through Film". Inside is an article that explores the secret origins of No Pants Day in Hollywood, and mentions the basic details of the holiday. Read it up here.

The icing on that cake is an article about Ka-Baam!, the new superhero improv show that Kareem, Kaci, and I are all in, courtesy of Wayne Allen Brenner. PGraph gets a nod in the interview part.

The cherry on top of that icing is that the cover of the Chronicle is of Backpack Picnic, and there's a nice article to go along with it. Now I've only been an extra in BP, but still. I know all those guys, and they use tons of improvisers for bit parts and extra roles.

How sweet.

UPDATE: I spoke too soon about BUH. They're planning a No Pants Day celebration on the West Mall, continuing the tradition. Woo!

The readers of Metafilter et al. at least have been thoroughly bombarded with them. For what it's worth.
