Of Mice and Massive Hard Drive Failures [Jan. 3rd, 2001|02:22 am]

[Current Mood |relieved]

My computer went south today. For the past few days it's been locking up whilst I've been asleep. I didn't think much of it, and I attributed to the fact that I was running ICQ, MSNIM, and AIM all at the same time. However, when I came home from work today, it was locked up again. I rebooted it, and the hard drive made a LOUD ticking noise.

Not good.

I lost everything, or so I thought. I managed to resuscitate the beast long enough to back up the important stuff (e-mail,writings,etc...). I went to CompUSA, charged another harddrive, and installed it.

Hours later, I had copied the entire contents of the old drive, installed Windows ME, and managed to get the whole thing going.

On a personal note, I seem to have grown as a person at some point. Computer problems used to make me sick to my stomach and stress me the hell out until I fixed them. This time, I remained pretty cool throughout.

So until the old drive dies again, I've got a grand total of 60 gigs of space, with about 40 free. Woohoo.
