Today feel like a good day to throw it all away... the spare microwave, the crate of MST3K VHS tapes, the mass of electrical cords, the books I'll never read, the student council tshirt with a platypus on the back drawn by yours truly, the broken and battered piece on the coronet I played in junior high, the Go board I bought because Dave was so into Go and I wanted to be cool like him, the Intuos II drawing tablet I never used, Froggie the beaten up guitar with no strings that held 1000 memories in highschool but is gathering dust, the "dull surprise" tv prop, the box of notes and doodles from 4th grade to my last years at UT, the letter to myself, the ill-fitting suits, my second best cat carrier, the empty bottles of Jolt, the pants missing buttons because they popped off, the ragged Guatemalan hats, the picture of me at my absolute worst (which was me with beyond shoulder length two-toned orangish hair, about 240 pounds holding a tiny kitten like I was going to eat it), my second best scale, the pieces of the Arch of the Right of Passage, the crudely drawn poster that says "MONSTERS NO!", the plastic concertina I first learned on, the ziploc baggy of tiny cut-out dinosaur doodles, the box of V-91 discount cards which were outdated when I joined V-91, the crate of minidiscs, the Bastard Squad master tapes, the Really Nice Compressor, the 5 or 6 spools of CDs I never listen to because I live in the modern era and have an ipod now, the broken XL-1, the tiny box of things people in 7th grade told me to keep and never throw away, the boxes the macbooks came in, the mixing board... all the stuff that defines me but doesn't... not really.|
Oh man... If you're just throwing it away, can I have some of it?
When did the XL1 break?
And I think I have a trumpet and (maybe) a copy of Trivial Pursuit at your place.
It broke a few years ago. It's really just the viewfinder that's broken. I'll probably sell it. I doubt Trivial Pursuit is around (I haven't seen it), but the trumpet is most definitely still here.
Now that I think about it, Trivial Pursuit should be in my house. But Diplomacy!, that should be in your house.
We should hang out. Do you have free time on weekends?
It's good to clear stuff out every once in awhile! Lately I've been watching this show Hoarders on A&E. It always makes me want to tidy up. Stuff is just stuff, it doesn't make you you. (That was a weird sentence.) We'll figure out when to come get the trumpet, I'm sure the kids would like playing with Tuesday.
What format are the Bastard Squad master tapes? If they're in better shape than my copy I might be interested.
Ditching notes seems painful ughhhhrk.
Yeah, I won't throw away the Bastard Squad stuff. I'm sure I can find someone who wants them... I have bags of HI-8 and mini-DV tapes, basically... and a bunch of VHS tapes of Bastard Squad episodes 1-4 or whatever.
I'll take the blank tapes, especially the mini-DV!
I am also facing the prospect of making another pass at whittling down all the cruft that has accumulated around the corners of my life. There have been many smoothing runs, but that has just put all the little random bits of memories and useless-but-I-might-need-it-someday pieces in mostly tidy boxes, which makes them harder to get rid of.
That said, if you need somewhere to temporarily store your Go board, I have a shelf for it.
Any chance you haven't thrown out those MST3K tapes? Any chance I could take them off your hands?
Yeah. I just need to sort through them and figure out which ones are actually MST3K. Some of them are unlabeled. I'll be in touch.
